中国中信集团公司(简称中信公司)是中国改革开放的总设计师邓小平亲自倡导和批准，由前国家副主席荣毅仁于1979年10月4日创办的。
中信公司成立初期曾被邓小平同志赞誉为中国在对外开放中的一个重要窗口。中信公司按照国家的法律法规和方针政策，坚持开拓创新，通过吸收和运用外资，引进先进技术，采用国际上先进、科学的经营方式和管理方法，遵循市场经济规律，在诸多业务领域中进行了卓有成效的探索，取得了较好的经济效益，在国内外树立了良好的信誉，为国家的改革开放事业作出了重大贡献。
中信公司现已成为具有较大规模的国际化大型跨国企业集团。中信公司目前拥有44家子公司（银行），其中包括设在香港、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚等地的子公司；公司还在东京、纽约设立了代表处。中信公司的业务主要集中在金融、实业和其它服务业领域。截至2006年底，中信公司的总资产为9,357亿元；当年净利润为64.6亿元。
在中信公司成立5周年时，邓小平为中信公司题词："勇于创新 多作贡献"；中信公司成立20周年时，中共中央总书记、国家主席江泽民为中信公司题词："开拓创新勤勉奋发 办好中信"。
中信公司的权力机构是董事会，孔丹任董事长，常振明任总经理。
Profile of CITIC Group
CITIC Group, with the initiation and approval by Deng Xiaoping, chief architect of China's reform and opening - up, was established on Oct. 4, 1979 by Rong Yiren, former Vice President of PRC.
CITIC is a window on China's opening to the outside world. Since its inception, CITIC has always adhered to the principle of innovation. In line with government laws, regulations and policies, CITIC has attracted and utilized foreign capital, introduced advanced technologies, and adopted advanced and scientific international practice in operation and management. In the light of the law of economy, CITIC has made explorations in many business fields with remarkable success and has achieved good economic results. By doing so, CITIC has made significant contributions to the country's reform and opening up drive and established good reputation both domestically and abroad.
CITIC has grown into a large transnational conglomerate. It now owns 44 subsidiaries ( banks ) including those in Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. The company has also set up representative office in Tokyo, New York and Rotterdam. CITIC's core business ranges from financial industry, industrial investment to service industries. By the end of 2006,CITIC's total assets stood at RMB 929.2 billion with an after-tax profit of RMB 6.09 billion.
On its fifth founding anniversary, Deng Xiaoping wrote the following inscription for CITIC: "Be bold in making innovations and strive to make more contributions". On CITIC's 20th anniversary, Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of CCP Central Committee and President of PRC wrote the inscription, which reads " Be innovative, industrious and self - motivated, and run CITIC well ".
CITIC's organ of power is its Board of Directors. Mr. Kong Dan is Chairman of the Board, and Mr. Chang Zhenming the President.
